Bathroom continuation

So, once the bathroom subfloor was laid and ready to go, I then proceeded to finish filling in the insulation between the studs in the wall.
In some areas, there are boards that were used as the walls:
I opted not to remove those boards to put the insulation behind, since there's already a layer of air between the walls anyway. In the above picture, you may notice a square that had been cut out in the lower part of the wall. That is from when the central AC and heat were added in a closet built on the other side of that wall in the kitchen area.

This next picture is a better view of the beam running along the length of the bathroom in the ceiling (along with some water damage from Katrina 5 years ago). The electrical for the ceiling light fixture is run through that beam.
We considered actually just removing the beam entirely, but weren't really sure what might be attached to it on the other side. It really can't be a load-bearing beam, since one end of it is completely unsupported, but still, better safe than sorry in this case. Thus, we decided the best thing to do would be to attach 2x4's to the ceiling and then attach beadboard to that.

At this time, we then laid down the backerboard to see how it would fit in the bathroom.
Like most old houses, this one is ANYthing but square! Funny that modern buildings are square, but not nearly as well put together as the older, non-square ones. Anyway, once the backerboard was fit (including cutting two of the four sheets to make them fit better), we laid down the layer of thin-set:
Once the thin-set was down, we quickly maneuvered the backerboard into position.
In the upper picture, you may notice we broke a corner off of it while trying to get it in place (once the thin-set was down, the backerboard didn't fit quite as well as before lol), in the lower right corner of the photograph. We just filled it in with thin-set once we were done laying down the backgoard.

That same day, I purchased my first lawn mower (yay!) and mowed the nearly 2/3 acre lot. It took me nearly 3 hours! I think next time I'm going to break it down into smaller sections!
Well, that's it until the next missive. Sooner or later, I'll catch up with myself and post timely blogs instead of writing about things past!
